For those of you who have read Simon Sinek's book (Start with Why) you'll understand that people do not buy WHAT you do, but WHY you do it.
You have to passionately convey to others why you are doing what you are doing, then you get immediate buy in. You can't just make it up to sound good, it must come from the heart.
My discovery came after several years of running a successful training company. In the early years I modelled my business on other training companies I had worked for. I created fresh products to make me stand out and followed a tried and tested formula of business consultancy, helping clients make more money. My 'fresh' ideas were soon copied and I lost my unique selling point. Then I discovered WHY I really went into business for myself. I was passionate about coaching people and making them more successful; it gave me a real buzz (and still does) to develop the skills of others and to watch them grow and develop.
The most valuable resource of any company is the people. Coaching individuals improved the fortunes of the organisation and granted me a huge amount of referral business. I moved away from helping companies make more money to empowering people to achieve the same goal from within.
