Throughout 2012 the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce Golf Society raised over £2000 for their nominated charity, Bolton Hospice’s £110k Hospice at Home appeal. The society’s Captain was Michael Sweeney of local recruitment company Good People and he chose the hospice knowing that their services provide the opportunity for people in Bolton facing life-limiting illnesses to receive expert palliative care in their home when it is most needed. Hospice Community Fundraiser Aanika Dhillon said ‘We are truly grateful for this superb contribution which takes us even closer to achieving our £110k Hospice at Home appeal. The generosity of these golfers is tremendous and will make a valuable difference to the services we offer.’ The £2050 donation will go towards ensuring more people in Bolton can be cared for by the hospice’s Hospice at Home team, meaning they can remain in the comfort of their own home, surrounded by friends and family whilst receiving expert palliative care. Speaking about the GM Chamber’s Golf Society’s fundraising efforts, Michael Sweeney says ‘For many players Golf can be an isle of joy in an ocean of anxieties and those of us with time to play the game are very lucky indeed. Most golfers are very conscious of this and are often generous supporters of charities both local and national. Bolton Hospice was chosen because of their excellent work on behalf of the people of Bolton. We are very grateful to our members for their generosity and support for this wonderful cause during the season’ said Michael.
