A projected £3M will be injected into Manchester’s economy in 2012 thanks to independent specialist travel and events company, Urban Fabric Events. Bringing more than 400 visitors each month into the city, the company expects to increase visitor numbers by 30-40% this year, helping to achieve its aim to become Manchester’s leading Destination Management Company (DMC). Director of Sales, John Harding said: “Despite the gloomy economic predictions for 2012, we are really pleased with our projections for the year ahead, and we look forward to welcoming even more visitors to Manchester over the coming months and years. “Manchester is a great tourist destination for all ages. Initially, our clients are attracted by Manchester as a ‘City of Sport’; however, it is our objective that we also show them what Manchester has to offer in addition to football and our leading sports venues.” As a specialist division of the Travel Connection Group the company designs bespoke hospitality packages for Manchester United football games which also encourage visitors to experience more of the city while they are here. Scandinavian football fans are the biggest market for the packages, with global demand now being seen in recent months. Urban Fabric Event’s mission is to capitalise on Manchester United’s success overseas to help raise awareness of other attractions in Manchester. Visitors purchasing the packages spend during their stay an average of £500 each; thus, boosting hotel occupancy, revenue to retail outlets and footfall in the city centre.
