• Don’t romanticise your job in the interview.


    If you want someone to stay in a role long term then you need to be honest about the role from the get-go.

    No role is perfect, and if you sell it as if it is you'll have a pretty disappointing new starter.

    Tell them what's great about the job, but also what the challenges are.

    Being open and honest around the challenges also give you the opportunity to ask how do they think they would handle these challenges. Which gives you both the opportunity to establish if they are a good fit.

    If you want engaged and happy employees step one is honest communication, and that should start with recruitment.
