• Flexible Thinking

It’s been another beautiful day in Sussex with an almost perfectly clear blue sky.  I was able to justify being out in it for about half an hour, taking the dog for a walk.  He’s old and can’t manage much more than that!

Other than that, I have been holed up in my flat talking on the ‘phone and Zoom and answering emails.  People do appear to be thinking about the beginning of the end of this.  I have had several calls today about potential redundancies and some about how businesses can phase people back to work.

Employers are taking the opportunity to re-structure and looking at what they have learned from lockdown.  More flexibility is definitely on the agenda now and part-time home-working may become part of the new normal, as will more conference calls and less time wasted in travel.  All potentially good for businesses, individuals and the planet.

Sadly, social distancing may also be with us for a while, with employer’s encouraged to think about ways in which their staff can take extra precautions generally.  Hopefully hand-sanitiser is here to stay and maybe a generation of kids will grow up obsessed with washing their hands. Right now, flexibility in terms of attitudes and expectations is being enforced by the rigid regime we are under.  If it encourages a more flexible can-do attitude generally, though, that should benefit us all.
