    Non-Life Insurance Analyst
    - Current
    In this role, still within CIS, I worked as part of a small team responsible for the management of various classes of non-life insurance business. The role involved undertaking detailed policy reviews focusing on premiums and claims, terms and conditions of cover, underwriting policy and compliance.

    - Current
    This role involved the underwriting of commerial insurance business provided as part of a combined insurance. The main classes of business I underwrote were; 1. Public Liability, 2. Employers Liability, 3. Fire and Special Perils, 4. Theft, 5. Business Interruption, 6. Cash in Transit, and 7. Plate Glass Insurance. Whilst working in this role I had responsibility for reviewing survey reports, especailly those covering fire and special perils risks and this is where I first developed an interest in fire safety matters.

    Fire Protection Engineer

    After an opportunity arose within CIS to work in the Risk Control Department I joined the team in a specilist role undertaking sprinkler system code compliance and efficacy surveys. I also had responsibility for liaising with clients to secure improvements to sprinkler systems and supporting fire compartmentation measures. Projects worked upon involved substantial reference to Approved Document B of the Building Regulations particularly in respect of fire spread and fire resistance. The review and design of property protection strategies was also a feature of my work. Projects worked upon included the design of the sprinkler protection, and being a member of the project team, for a sprinkler system dedicated to the protection of large scale aerosol storage and distribution. I also gained a detailed knowledge of the design criteria applicable to, and hands on project experience of, the sprinkler protection of a wide variety of large logistics sites. I represented CIS on a number of insurance industry trade bodies.

    More recently, prior to joining Exova warringtonfire I worked for a regional based fire safety consultancy as manager of their fire risk assessment function. In addition to a managament role within the business I was responsible for carrying out fire risk assessments of large retail and logistics premises. This work often involved the preparation of detailed fire risk assessment documents supported by floor plan drawings, emergency evacuation procedures and step-by-step procedures for the evacuation of mobility impaired persons. Representing clients in dealing with enforcing authorities was also a feature of my work.

    I joined Exova Warringtonfire in August 2007 and have responsibility for the development and management of the fire risk assessment and fire safety training division of the business. In addition to these specifc services my previous experience lends itself well to undertaking active fire system surveys and developing property protection strategies for complex industrial applications. For example I have recently been part of the design team addressing the fire safety arrangements at a number of new power stations and state of the art waste recycling facilities. Since joining the Exova business I have also worked on a number of airport terminal projects reviewing the fire safety management plans and causes and effects plans, and revising and further developing these as required. I have also represented a number of clients in dealing with the enforcing authorities where enforcement actions have been brought against them.

Interests and Hobbies

I have a keen interest in most sports and enjoy keeping fit. I am a member of Rochdale Trithlon Club, Royton Road Runners and Dark Peak Fell Runners. I regulary participate in triathlons of all distances and also enjoy taking part in long distance fell running and trail running events.
I enjoy travelling, especially within rural France, and hill walking with my wife and two daughters.
I have longstanding interest in transparency and slide film SLR cameras; those with with as little electronics as possible being of the most interest to me.
