I’ve seen it happen. Bookkeeping courses can change people’s lives. We had one student who was desperately unhappy on the checkout at a major supermarket chain. She couldn’t stand the pressure of having to scan X number of items per hour. That’s what motivated her to investigate bookkeeping courses as a way of bettering herself. Now she works in accounting at an international consulting firm. Another student hated taking orders in a call centre so his sister saved up the money to put him through enough bookkeeping courses to become an Accounting Technician. And the fact that we’re open for study from 09:00-20:00 Monday to Thursday, 09:00-16:30 on Fridays and 10:00-16:00 on Saturdays means that even if you work irregular shifts, you can still come in and study, even if it’s only for an hour. So you get a nationally recognised qualification and studying is really convenient. The hardest part is getting the money together as getting a respected certificate, diploma or other qualification is never going to be cheap. But the franchisee who operates the training centres in Holborn, Notting Hill and Manchester has even thought of a way to make paying easier, so they’ve pretty much removed all the barriers to getting on with it. The only thing you have to remember is that you’ve got to work at getting your book-keeping qualification. That means memorising things, practising what you’ve learnt and thinking through the implications of the knowledge you’ve gained.
