These were the first official figures to be released since the Supreme Court’s decision to abolish fees in July.  While the headline percentage increase is alarmingly high, the actual number of claims involved is more modest – there were 4,241 claims in the three months up to July and there have been 7,042 in this latest quarter.  HMCTS also reported that the number of overturned claims had increased by 42% in the same period.

However, this is a clear reminder for employers to be aware of the potential pitfalls of not following fair and proper procedures in hiring, firing and managing their people.
