SMEs struggle with VAT rise 28/02/2011 It has been reported that people working in tax jobs at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are struggling to make savings due to the VAT hike which came into effect on January 4th. According to figures released by American Express, 56 per cent of those in charge of finances at SMEs say the hike has put expenses at their firm "under greater scrutiny". Meanwhile, a further 62 per cent told the company they struggle because they miss out on savings and discounts that are easier for larger businesses to achieve.
