This is part of my drive and #rehabmonday campaign to change the way you see your Monday – from a day of drudge, to a day which is the start of a fantastic week doing what you enjoy doing. Yes work can be fun – honest.
People say start with your why. Why you want to do something. The why behind what you do.
But I think that is something a lot of us already know. We don’t have to look very hard. We just have to remember to keep that to the forefront of our minds.
What I am finding people are doing is continually repackaging their ‘why’ and the ‘what’ they want to change and coming up with all the reasons why they can’t.
So what is really hard to find is not the ‘why’, but the strength to say ‘Why not’.
Why not do it? Why not take the plunge? Why not change the way you think about your career/job/future business?
Instead, we seem to find a new ‘why’ – the why not to do something not a Why Not do it?
Such a subtle difference.
But when you are contemplating today – Monday – and wondering why you have to be at work, why you are doing what you do, why you are putting up with that manager, or company or situation at work, then you need to stop just finding your why to change and start thinking ‘Why Not?’
Why not just change? Why not take the first step – the step of thinking ‘Why not?’ and let your mind open up to the possibility of a new option, a new career, a new job, a new company – a new Monday.
Opening up to opportunity can be the hardest action to take. There is a lot of money invested into companies undergoing change programmes to make the changes needed to take them into a world of possibility – a world of people saying ‘Why Not?’ and not we can’t – but we forgot to take this attitude and invest in helping ourselves change our mindsets. And companies forget to invest as heavily in supporting individuals to change their mindset and give them the strength to start asking ‘Why not?’ not just at work, but for themselves, in their own life.
I often think that is because some companies are afraid of unlocking too many ‘mental doors’ and potentially having employees that start to really think for themselves, really question and really drive real change. But that is another article…
In general, I believe we know what we want, but lose the impetus to do it in the grind down of daily life. So instead of constantly trying to repackage your ‘why’, change your thinking to say ‘well Why not?’ – why not just do it?
The only thing you can regret is not trying – trying means you are one step closer to getting what you want. Sitting still and continuing just dreaming about your ‘why’ and your ‘what’ won’t make it happen.
So why not? Why not change your next Monday today?
