According to a New York Times survey, the greatest fear for people was walking into a room full of strangers! This probably stems form our childhood and our parents' warnings. However, people buy people and the more confident you are at developing new contacts, the more successful your business will be. Here are two techniques that will give you a sharper edge to your networking and attract more people to you: If you are feeling a little uneasy before going to a networking event, "anchoring" is a powerful exercise that you can use. It requires practice but once mastered can be used at any time for maximum results. Think of a time when you felt extremely confident, and stand as you were at that time, Double, then triple that feeling. When it is at its most intense, make a move - for example, clicking your fingers or pumping your fist in the air. Repeat the exercise as many times as needed. Whenever you make that move, those confident feelings will come flooding back to you in an instant. At the networking event, beware of your body language, as this makes up 55% of what influences others - more than your tone of voice (38%) and the actual words you say (7%). Do you assume the posture of a confident person when you walk into a room? Doing so will automatically enable you to think more confident thoughts and present yourself with more ease. When speaking to someone, does your body language reflect a genuine interest in what they do? Using these two techniques regularly will boost your confidence and give your networking that sharper edge!
