Friday the 23rd of March 2012 is set to be an historic day as the Queen begins her tour to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee in the city of Manchester. Thousands of fans are expected to line the streets of Manchester to welcome the Queen and Prince Philip as they arrive at Victoria Station at about 10.30am before moving on to the Eye Hospital on Oxford Road by 10.45am Fans and spectators are being asked to congregate on the Boulevard – which runs through the centre of the hospital site – for a glimpse of the Queen who should arrive by 10.30am at the latest. The Queen will then move on to formally open Media City, in Salford Quays, at around 11.40am. There the crowds will gather at the piazza outside the BBC studios and at the green in front of Salford University’s new campus. Trams and buses to Media City are expected to run as normal and parking will be available. She will be at Manchester town hall by lunchtime, where a jubilee feast will take place with local dignitaries. After viewing Albert Square’s jubilee garden – painstakingly planted by local volunteers over the last few days – she will arrive at Manchester Central conference hall at 3.15pm. During the visit Manchester city centre is likely to experience heavy traffic and temporary road closures. The roads that will be closed have not been released for security reasons but we can expect deansgate to be at a stand still for long periods during the day. It’s an exciting time for Manchester as they welcome the Queen back after nearly a decade, the media and residents of Manchester are labelling it as a special day. Local couriers are expecting same day delivery times to be directly affected by the celebrations and we urge any customer who has an urgent delivery to call us directly instead of booking online.
