It has recently been reported in the Daily Mail (yes the bible to celeb relationship breakdowns) that cage-fighter Alex Reid has proposed on live TV to his current girlfriend and ex big brother contestant, Chantelle Houghton. I will leave it to the readers to form their own opinions on a) whether the marriage will last and b) the choice of proposing on live TV, but my concern is the fact that Alex Reid is still married to his last wife, Katie Price (aka Jordon). It will be illegal for Alex and Chantelle to wed before Alex is officially divorced as it will be classed as bigamy. It appears from the article the divorce papers have been submitted to the court, however I usually advise my client’s that the divorce can take between 4-6 months to go through, as long as there are no complications along the way. Hopefully Miss Price will be eager to divorce Mr Reid as quickly as possible and so there should be no objection to the decree absolute being applied for at the first available date. Hopefully the time frame will be long enough for Chantelle to plan a wedding and no doubt we will be eager to see the pictures in OK magazine!
