If someone buys from you do you offer them more?

If someone buys from you do you offer them more?

We've all seen examples of this, every time you're in McDonald's you're asked if you want the meal large and a lot of people will say yes. This is an upsell the company wouldn't have had if they hadn't asked.

McDonald's show us a great example of upselling well.
Other businesses also ask small questions at the till to attempt to entice you into buying extra.
Have you ever been to WH Smiths and been asked if you'd like a bar of chocolate?

Even if you have an online business this can work.
How often do you shop online and after you finish shopping you're asked if you'd like to continue shopping. Or they offer you similar products to what you've recently bought, or what other people also bought who'd also chosen the same products as you. Amazon is excellent at upselling in this way.

Don't feel awkward asking a customer if they'd like something else, if they are interested in your products then they might want to know about what else you can offer. They may also be upset or annoyed if they find out later that you do something they would have chosen to taken advantage of if you'd just asked.

Next Steps...
Think about how you can upsell your products and services to your customers
What else may your customers like if they've bought something from you already
Always ask them if they want that extra product or service
