3 Myths every Architect should know about Principal Designer CDM 2015

3 Myths every Architect should know about…

Myth 1: The Principal Designer can only be a single person under CDM 2015

They can be an organisation or an individual with sufficient knowledge, experience and ability to carry out the role.

Myth 2: The role of the Principal Designer simply replaces that of the old CDM Co-ordinator (CDM-C)

The Principal Designer is a new role, with a new design perspective and fewer and different duties. Other previous CDM-C duties have been distributed to the Client and Principal Contractor.

Myth 3: I only take part in smaller scale developments, so CDM regulations don’t apply to me

CDM 2015 applies to all “construction work”, not just on larger building projects. This covers from painting and decorating in a domestic client house, to multi-trades on large sites.
