Benefits of Taking Your Family On Business Trips

One of the main challenges that arises when you run your own business, is balancing work and family life. When you think about starting a business, you assume you’ll have a lot more time to spend with the family. However, it doesn’t take long to realise that if you want your business to be a success, you need to put a lot of hours into it – often more than you would if you simply had to turn up to a 9 to 5 job.

Failing to have a good work/life balance can actually have dire consequences to your business, as well as your relationships. So how can you gain a healthier balance? Well, one tip is to take the family away on business trips.

As a business owner who is often called upon to go abroad for work, there were two reasons that I have starting taking my family with me on some of my trips.

1.     Combining work and family time

No matter what type of business you run, it’s more than likely there will be times you need to go away on business. Leaving your kids behind can be difficult; especially if business trips are a frequent necessity. Taking them away with you on the odd business trip is a fantastic way to spend more time with them and to also allow them to have a unique experience of their own.

They’ll get to experience different parts of the world that they wouldn’t otherwise see. You won’t be working 24/7 so you’ll have plenty of spare time to show them new places and experience something other than just sitting in front of the TV or chatting over dinner.

2.     Money saving benefits

You won’t just get to spend more quality time with your family if you combine your personal and business holiday into one – you’ll also save a lot of money too. You’ll already be getting a discount on business travel and if you’ve made use of collecting air miles from your other business trips, you might even be able to get your family’s flights free too. It’s a lot cheaper to combine your holiday and as mentioned earlier, you won’t be working all the time throughout the stay so you’ll still have plenty of chance to relax.

Overall when you aren’t worried about leaving your family behind, it will not only make you and them a lot happier, but it will keep you motivated too. You’ll be a lot more productive on your business trip and that in turn will greatly benefit your business. As a family we have definitely felt the benefit and I think my business has too.
