There are many temptations to avoid hiring a professional photographer, chief of which is probably cost. But isn't that a false economy? When looking to hire other professionals for your business or for the home, you don't look for people who work for free or next to nothing; you ask for reasonable estimates for the job in hand from reputable workers.

If you are a retailer or in an industry such as fashion, where image is crucial, the value you place on promoting your products and services is of immense importance. That value is something that an experienced photographer will share with you. When you hire a photographer, you aren't just hiring their skills with lighting and the camera, you are buying in their experience. It is this experience that will allow you to successfully align your brand's style with your target audience and market.

A photographer will come to you recommended because of the photographs they have created, or you will have noticed their work yourself through websites and social media. Beyond the images you will have seen before you approach them, there are numerous skill sets they will bring to your commission. These include direction of the shoot and any models that may be involved. This is to emphasise your product, your service in the style you want. Alongside a stylist who might well be a colleague, the photographer will generate a story to which your customers, existing and potential, will aspire, will identify with and will want to buy into. If you need models, it is likely that the photographer already has a network from which you will be able to select the appropriate people with the right look. These will be professional models, skilled and able to fulfil your commission. The photographer will also be skilled in post-production work, fine tuning your images to your exact specifications.

The professional photographer is already established. They have the contacts and equipment necessary for your commission. Anything above and beyond their regular gear they will be able to source and cost for you. Given their direction of the shoot, it is very unlikely that you will be left disappointed with your images, looking for someone to re-shoot for you or for someone who can salvage your photographs in Photoshop. Using somebody who will shoot for free or minimal cost might save you money and might produce some useable images. For a guarantee, invest some of your budget in a professional who can bring so much more to your shoot than just a camera.

A highly creative photographer able to bring ideas to the table to help develop and realise your brief. Whether you are an individual wanting a portrait, a model looking for a portfolio, or a…
