Friday 12th July was a successful night at the Warrington Business Awards for Brookson where there was a double win for apprentices Jack Wright and Hannah Clayton. Over 300 people attended the black tie dinner including the mayor of Warrington, where Jack won the award for Apprentice of the Year and Hannah winning a commendation.

Jack has worked at Brookson as an accounts apprentice for 18 months and Hannah as a Payroll apprentice for the past 12 months and were taken on as part of an apprenticeship scheme through Warrington Collegiate.

Commenting on the success of the apprenticeship scheme Sarah McLellan HR Officer said “We were delighted that both Jack and Hannah were shortlisted for the apprentice of the year award. However, to have Jack win and Hannah receive a commendation was absolutely fantastic and goes some of the way to recognising the great contribution they have made since being employed here!

All the apprentices make a huge contribution to the organisation and this award is a great way of recognising that. Jack has done a lot of work in conjunction with Warrington Collegiate in terms of raising the profile of apprenticeships with other local businesses and this is why he was the most deserving recipient on the night. Both Jack and Hannah are great ambassadors for apprenticeships and were the first 2 individuals to get through the programme here.“

Talking about his win Jack said “I was extremely shocked about winning and worried about making a speech but was so happy and I had a really great night. I’m so glad I entered and that I took part in the apprenticeship scheme and I hope that this will lead to more recognition of apprenticeships and the benefits of them.”

Hannah added “I was so nervous but extremely pleased, it was such a fun night and it’s been good to show young people that university isn’t the only option and you can still go out and get the experience. It would be great if Brookson entered for more awards at next year’s ceremony!”

Sarah McLellan summed up the value of using apprentices “Throughout their employment as apprentices they have demonstrated commitment, dedication and hard work. They have worked full time whilst studying for their AAT qualification and have become very knowledgeable and valuable members of the team. It is because of their success that we have expanded the programme and taken on other apprentices. They should be proud of everything they have achieved and the part they have played in establishing a successful apprenticeship programme here at Brookson Ltd!”
