Employment Lawyer Samantha Mangwana is interviewed on ITV News concerning the landmark Equal Pay ruling made by the Supreme Court. Samantha explains the wider significance of this decision including the fact that men and women can now bring Equal Pay Claims in the Ordinary Courts rather than Employment Tribunals as before. This means that claimants now have 6 years to bring an Equal Pay Claim rather than 6 months. Samantha goes on to explain the disparity in men’s and women’s pay including the average national pay gap but explains that this varies from industry to industry. Samantha explains the significance of the decision - which means that now by bringing an Equal Pay Claim in the Ordinary Courts the looser must pay the winners costs, which she argues will deter claims going to court with more settlements out of court being reached as employers whose employee has a good claim will recognise that it is in their interests to settle cases quicker and out of court.
