Top tips for virtual on-boarding -
  • Always support virtual on-boarding with video conferencing
  • Ensure consistency across all functions and geographies (process)
  • Automated contract production (no need for wet signatures)
  • Specify one day per month for company induction (function induction can be before or after this) as this helps to create a bond for new starters e.g. networking opportunities, buddy system
  • Have ambassadors for on-boarding in each location where you can (virtual where need be) i.e. HR and Recruitment folks cannot do it all themselves
  • Deliver kit to home addresses and have contingency plans in case this does not happen i.e. individuals can use their own kit in the meantime with secure access
  • Live your values so as individuals can take responsibility and are empowered to make things happen remotely 
  • Suggest / provide Apps that promote wellbeing (exercise / healthy eating) 
  • Provide access to virtual training
  • Send out pulse checks to see how new starts are doing
  • Have an owner in the business that is accountable for the entire process
  • Set up virtual meeting rooms and all hands calls for both social and business meetings
  • Build and promote a sense of community
NB - remember people are not working from home they are working at home so emphasise that interuptions from e.g. kids, pets, grandparents shouting for tea etc are all OK!
